Meds and Weight Gain
Did you know that some meds can make you gain weight?
If you're taking any of these meds, talk with your provider about how it may affect your weight loss goals.
Meds that may cause weight gain
Some antipsychotic meds taken for schizophrenia and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Some antidepressants.
Some diabetes meds.
Hormones, such as birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and steroids.
Some over-the-counter meds, like naproxen, contain high levels of sodium, causing you to hold water.
You may be able to take a different med instead. Sometimes, a med that can affect your weight is needed, and a change isn't possible.
Talk to your provider or pharmacist if you think your meds may be causing you to gain weight. They can discuss options with you.

Important
Stopping your meds on your own is dangerous.
Never stop taking a med without first talking to your provider.
Let them know about your concerns.
