5 key habits
To lose weight and keep it off:
Weigh yourself weekly.
Change what you eat and drink.
Be active for at least 2 hours and 30 minutes each week. That's about 30 minutes most days of the week. Mix up your activities to keep things fun.
Eat breakfast every day.
Watch less than 10 hours of TV per week.
To stay on track
Keep a food and physical activity log.
Stay mindful of the healthy changes you've made to lose weight.
Keep in touch with your doctor or care manager about concerns and progress.
Set up a "red flag" to see if your weight is slipping back. For example, you might want to set a 5-pound weight gain as your red flag.
If you slip
Here are some things to try:
Review why you lost weight in the first place and remember the hard work you've done so far.
Go back to using your logs for weight, food intake, and physical activity. Look for problems and set goals to manage these problems.
