Fitting in Activity
You can't always get to a structured workout, even the short ones here in this program. But activity doesn't have to be so planned. It doesn't have to be on a schedule, with an app, or inside a gym.
There are many ways to move around more throughout your day. If you have a busy day coming up, try these ways to fit in activity.
Mix things up on your commute
Walk or ride a bike to go to and from places.
Get off the bus or subway 1 stop early and walk the rest of the way.
Park far away from your building.
Move more at work
Always take the stairs.
Walk down the hall to talk to a coworker instead of using phone or email.
On breaks, take a brisk walk for 5 to 10 minutes.
Stay active at home
Walk your dog or a friend's dog.
Do yard work. Mow the grass. Rake the leaves. Weed the garden.
Wash your car by hand.
Vacuum or sweep the floor often.
March in place during TV commercials.
Stretch or do chair exercises while watching TV.
Pace the room while using the phone.
When shopping
Carry your items instead of pushing a cart.
Park at the far end of the parking lot and walk to the mall or store.
Take a brisk walk while shopping at the mall.
And whether you're alone or at a party, dance whenever you can!
Quick tip
Keep track of the time it took to do these activities. Make a note in your calendar.
They count toward your weekly goal.
You'll feel proud that you did something active!
Easier than you thought, right?
If you aren't sure that an activity is right for you, talk to your provider or send your care manager a message.
